Ventura, a Cape Verdean laborer living in the outskirts of Lisbon, is suddenly abandoned by his wife Clotilde. Ventura feels lost between the dilapidated old quarter where he spent the last 34 years and his new lodgings in a recently-built low-cost housing complex. All the young poor souls he meets seem to become his own children. EXTRAIT DIALOGUE Nha cretcheu, my love, being together again will make our life beautiful for another thirty years. As far me, I will come back full of love and strength. I wish I could give you a hundred thousand cigarettes, a dozen of those fancy dresses, a car, the little lava house you’ve always wanted, a four-penny bouquet. But above all else, drink a good bottle of wine, and think of me. Here it’s all work. We’re over a hundred now. I still don’t have anything from your hand. Maybe I will soon… Sometimes I’m afraid of building these walls, me, with a pick and cement and you, with your silence.
